Green Claims
The Directive on Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (EU) 2024/825 addresses misleading environmental practices, such as vague or unsubstantiated green claims and early product obsolescence. The Commission proposal for a Green Claims Directive aims to complement this with detailed requirements for substantiating, verifying and communicating voluntary environmental claims, including the use of scientific evidence and third-party verification.
EPBA - Consumer Batteries Europe supports the objective of providing consumers with reliable and trustworthy environmental information and preventing misleading claims. Environmental performance in the battery sector is often complex, based on technical metrics such as lifecycle analysis, carbon footprint, and recycling efficiency. We therefore advocate for clear, harmonised and feasible rules.
