The Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 is the EU’s central framework for batteries. The Regulation covers the entire battery life cycle, including the sourcing of materials, battery design and production, use, collection, recycling, and repurposing.

It applies to batteries placed on the EU market whether they are manufactured here or imported from outside, including manufacturers, authorised representatives, importers, distributors and fulfilment service providers.

Many aspects of the Regulation are implemented by secondary legislation with various deadlines.
