Circular Economy
In late 2026, the European Commission is expected to publish its proposal for a Circular Economy Act. It is expected to introduce horizontal measures promoting durability, repairability, recyclability, and the increased use of secondary raw materials across value chains.
EPBA - Consumer Batteries Europe fully supports the EU transition towards a circular economy. The consumer battery sector is already contributing through high collection rates and established recycling systems.
As batteries are already subject to a comprehensive regulatory framework, duplication and regulatory overlap must be avoided. Battery-specific technical and safety constraints must also be taken into account, for example where repairability or reuse are not applicable.
