Batteries Regulation
Battery Labelling
Labelling requirements are intended to give consumers, waste operators and market surveillance authorities clearer information on the battery, its characteristics and how it should be handled at the end of life.
This includes information about the manufacturer, battery category, type and chemistry, manufacturing date, weight, the presence of hazardous substances and critical raw materials, capacity information for rechargeable batteries and minimum average duration for certain primary batteries. Batteries must also carry the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol, reminding users to collect used batteries separately and not dispose of them with household waste.
EPBA - Consumer Batteries Europe advocates for clear and workable labelling that genuinely helps millions of consumers find relevant information on everyday products. Digital labels must be easy to understand, proportionate and technically feasible, while encouraging responsible consumer behaviour and supporting efficient collection and recycling.
